Recent renovations to Highsmith Union have brought the student experience to the front and center of the building, providing meeting spaces and open areas for student organizations, as well as an area to showcase a student art gallery and share the work of the Intercultural Center. Two fireplaces and Roasted coffee shop contribute to the warm and inviting atmosphere. The construction of the configurable multi-purpose Blue Ridge Room between Highsmith Union and Brown Hall provides additional event space for up to 480 people depending on the room set-up. The Blue Ridge Room provides direct access to Brown Hall for kitchen and catering operations as well.
Project planning for Highsmith Union included a feasibility study, student survey, and community meetings.
Renovations to Highsmith Union began in Spring 2017 and were completed in Spring 2019.
